Pleuropericardial effusion in the postoperative period of hiatoplasty

Laparoscopic hiatoplasty is a frequently used technique due to its excellent results. Nevertheless, in recent years
it has been observed that a small percentage of these interventions develop into a pleuro-pericardial effusion
as a post-operative complication; and in 9 out of 10 of these cases, a tacker-fixated mesh had been used. In
this article we will review a case in which this complication appeared and we will explore the causes behind its
appearance.
