Abstract

Cutaneous larva migrans (CLM) is a skin infection caused by helminth larvae commonly found in tropical or subtropical regions, where many tourists are affected. Through a particular clinical case, the aim is to highlight the challenge of clinical diagnosis on certain occasions. We present the case of a Spanish patient who developed a progressive itchy skin rash while traveling in Venezuela and, without a clinical diagnosis, started empirical treatment with ivermectin. The clinical-epidemiological findings and the immediate response to treatment suggested an affliction by CLM.
