Abstract

Liver abscess is an infection with polymicrobial etiology, but the emergence of Klebsiella pneumoniae as the main cause, specifically serotypes K1 or K2 with a mucoid phenotype, is increasing in Europe. We present here the case of a 76 years old man who consulted due to fever. He had a history of two previous admissions for liver abscesses secondary to Klebsiella pneumoniae. The abdominopelvic CT showed a new liver abscess and the blood cultures were positive, again, for K. pneumoniae, confirming mucoviscid serotype K1.
