Abstract

Malignant syphilis is considered to be an atypical manifestation of secondary syphilis. It is characterised by a predominance of nodular-ulcerative lesions, with a higher incidence in patients with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection. The diagnosis is clinical, based on serological and histopathological results. We present the case of a 51-year-old patient with malignant syphilis skin lesions and unknown HIV infection, with a favorable clinical response after starting parenteral antibiotic treatment and adequate viral load control with antiretrovirals.
