Abstract

Leishmaniasis is a parasitic disease caused by Leishmania genus protozoon. Visceral leishmaniasis or kala-azar is the acutest form. In Spain, the incidence is low and the severe forms generally manifest in immunocompromised patients. Clinical suspicion is essential for diagnosis. Here we present the case of a 35-year-old immunocompetent male resident in Bilbao who was diagnosed with visceral leishmaniasis.
