Primary hyperparathiroidism secondary to functioning parathyroid cyst

Functioning parathyroid cyst is a very rare entity that can lead to misled diagnosis and treatment. We present one case with a literature review on the pathogenesis and diagnosis of this condition. Our patient was referred with hypercalcemia and after primary hyperparathyroidism was established, Localization tests revealed a cystic lesion with a high intact-parathormone (i-PTH) concentration in the cytology establishing the diagnosis. After a right inferior parathyroidectomy the patient achieved biochemical and clinical cure.
