Abstract

Human African trypanosomiasis is produced by protozoa of the genus Trypanosome and transmitted mainly by the bite of the tsetse fly. During the last century, Cuba has been providing international assistance in many countries that suffer from these epidemics and their collaborators are exposed to the risk of suffering them. This study presents two cases with encephalitis, admitted and treated in Pedro Kouri Institute of Tropical Medicine, to alert the need for preventive measures as well as to include this infection in the differential diagnosis.
