Abstract

Listeria monocytogenes is one of the most common aetiological agents of meningitis in the world. Patients usually have predisposing risk factors such as advanced age, pregnancy, or immunosuppression. It is rarely associated with extrameningeal complications.

We present a case of a 73-year-old immunocompetent patient with meningitis by Listeria monocytogenes leading to complications such as bursitis, acute urinary retention, thrombosis, and hyponatremia. High suspicion index should prompt an early therapy.
