Abstract

Calcification of mitral annulus (CMA) is a frequent echocardiographic finding in the elderly population, but the caseous calcification of the mitral annulus (CCAM) is a rare variant (prevalence 0.06-0.07%) of this process. It is a casual finding in most cases, but may be a cause of mitral valve dysfunction, AV conduction disorders, or cere- brovascular or cardiac embolism. We present the case of an ST-Elevation Acute Coronary Syndrome (SCACEST) as an uncommon clinical expression of CCAM, where imaging techniques were fundamental to establish the final diagnosis.
