Abstract

Myeloneuropathy associated with acquired copper deficiency is a rare condition that has been detected in several species and, recently, in humans, with much variability in its form of display, and usually with anemia and leukopenia. Cases have been reported on people between 30-82 year-old. Half of the cases are due to secondary malabsorption of the gastric resection surgery, with symptomatology appearing even years later. These symptoms are similar to those caused by vitamin B12 deficit. There are idiopathic cases, like the one we are presenting, where the patient improved both clinically and analytically by administrating subcutaneous copper histidine supplements.
