Abstract

The Budd-Chiari Syndrome is the result of clinical manifestations that appears as a consequence of hepatic venous thrombosis, whose most frequent origin is the suprahepatic veins. The aetiology is very wide, and the presence of hereditary and acquired thrombophilias must be ruled out. We present a case of a 77-year-old man, with cardiac pathology and ulcerative colitis diagnosis, without inflammatory bowel activity and under a maintenance treatment with mesalazine. The patient was referred to Internal Medicine because of a constitutional syndrome. Guided by a physical examination and a number of basic complementary tests, we began the study aimed to the aetiological diagnosis of a chronic liver disease. Subsequently, in the light of the computed tomography results, the main causes of Budd-Chiari Syndrome were ruled out.
