There are no innocent drugs: hepatocellular damage induced by desloratadine

The symptoms, signs and alterations of liver function induced by drugs can mimic any type of liver disease. A case of hepatocellular lesion due to desloratadine is presented. Desloratadine is a drug metabolized by the liver via cytochrome P450 (CYP 3A4 and 2D6), with little reference in the literature as a cause of liver damage. The importance of monitoring liver function in patients treated with drugs with hepatotoxic potential is emphasized.
