Abstract

A 22 year-old woman was admitted to hospital due to hypertensive encephalopathy with associated hypopotassemia, metabolic alkalosis, and high plasmatic serum activity and aldosterone. Abdominal CT-scan showed a stenosis of the right renal artery, which was eventually confirmed by angiography. Therefore, we established the diagnosis of fibromuscular dysplasia. After percutaneous balloon angioplasty, previously raised values blood pressure turned back to normality without any antihypertensive treatment.

Final Diagnosis: Renal artery stenosis secondary to Fibromuscular Dysplasia.

Discussion: Secondary Hypertension should be suspected to perform a curative intention treatment.
