Abstract

A patient with an AIDS stage HIV infection and a thoracic herpes zoster treated with acyclovir, presents with visual loss as a consequence of a bilateral progressive outer retinal necrosis (PORN) caused by varicella-zoster virus. Despite of treatment, the patient doesn’t recover visual acuity. An early diagnostic suspicion and treatment are essential for a better prognosis.
