Abstract

Tuberculum sellae meningioma represents the second most frequent pituitary gland neoplasm, only preceded by the pituitary adenoma. The tumor grows involving the optic chiasm and optic nerves, causing a progressive visual loss that may result in blindness. Initially it can give very few indications of its existence and, since this region is crowded with important structures, with moderate increase it can implicate the carotid arteries and cranial nerves. In these cases, the surgical task is insurmountable and visual loss can be permanent. The case of a patient with a tuberculum sellae meningioma and unspecific visual loss as the only symptom is reported.
