Abstract

We report a case of a 67 year old man, who was diagnosed of type 2 diabetes mellitus in a routine analysis, and treated with diet, exercise and metformin. Twelve months after, the glycemic control remained inadequate and developed cardinal symptoms (polyuria, polydipsia, asthenia and progressive 12 kg weight loss) requiring starting insulin therapy. An abdominal CT showed a pancreatic mass that after a percutaneous biopsy was classified as pancreatic adenocarcinoma. This case emphasizes the importance of new-onset diabetes rapidly progressive as a clue to the diagnosis of pancreatic cancer.
