Abstract

Thyroid storm is a rare but life-threatening disorder caused by severe thyrotoxicosis due to hypertiroidism. Some
of its clinical manifestations include fever, arrythmia, heart failure, diarrhea, confusion and even coma. Blood test
show undetectable TSH levels with elevation of T3 and/or T4. The diagnosis is primarily clinical and the treatment
is based on reducing the synthesis and secretion of thyroid hormones, decreasing their periferal effects and treating
the cause that triggered it.
