Abstract

Pubic osteomyelitis is a rare variant of bone infection secondary to hematogenous bacterial seeding or direct inoculation. It is clinically characterized by intense acute pubic pain, gait disturbance, high fever, leukocytosis, and elevated acute phase reactants. In a minority of patients, such presentation appears related to vigorous exercise. Differential diagnosis must be established with osteitis pubis. We report a case of a 15-year-old woman presenting with typical clinical findings, a history of physical activity, and positive blood cultures for Staphylococcus aureus as a characteristic patient example for this entity.
