Abstract

The management of prosthetic infection is complicated in pluripatological and elderly patients, where risks and benefits of antibiotic treatment and debridement should be assessed, deciding the permanence or removal of the implant, especially if the infection is established. Our goal is to deliberate and help in decision making in these circumstances. We present the case of an 82-year-old male who suffered a subcapital hip fracture subsidiary of partial arthroplasty, with subsequent dislocation and infection of prostheses that required replacement and finally, after conservative management with directed antibiotic therapy, arthroplasty without arthrodesis (Girdlestone).
